Warwickshire have signed Pakistani spinner Usman Tariq for the 2026 Vitality Blast T20 competition.
Warwickshire have finalised an agreement to include Tariq in their ranks for the upcoming Vitality Blast campaign. James Thomas, the county's performance director, highlighted why the signing aligns perfectly with their ambitions. 'Usman embodies the high-impact player we aim to recruit at Warwickshire, so concluding this deal fills us with joy,' he stated. 'His bowling expertise and tactical acumen make him a genuine danger in contemporary limited-overs cricket, yet it's his relentless drive to compete and evolve that truly impresses us.'
The link between Warwickshire and Birmingham Phoenix has made this deal especially compelling. Tariq’s arrival with the Bears for the Vitality Blast will be followed by a switch to the Phoenix for the Hundred competition, showcasing the strength of their combined club-and-franchise model. This approach enables continuity for the player while maximising his influence across both tournaments. It also strengthens ties with supporters in Birmingham and Warwickshire, reinforcing the team’s footprint across both regions.
Tariq expressed his enthusiasm about joining Warwickshire and the impact he hopes to have. 'I am thrilled to bring extra excitement and energy to the Bears,' he said. 'I cannot wait to become part of the squad, and it feels fantastic to wear this shirt. I hope to see as many fans as possible at Edgbaston this summer.'
Warwickshire’s squad has seen the departure of Moeen Ali, who moved to Yorkshire, while Jordan Thompson has arrived as a new addition. Beau Webster will join Tariq as the county’s second overseas player, rounding out their overseas contingent for the season ahead.
