Virat Kohli smashes T20 milestones: 10 tons, fastest to 14000 runs in 2026

Virat Kohli reached 14,000 T20 runs in just 409 innings, becoming the first Indian batter to score 10 T20 centuries.

Kohli's T20 century record

Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 105 against Kolkata Knight Riders marked his tenth T20 century, the highest tally by any Indian batter in the format. He joins an elite group of just four batters with ten or more T20 tons, behind Chris Gayle (22), Babar Azam (13), and David Warner (10). This achievement further cements Kohli’s status as one of the most prolific run-scorers in T20 cricket history. His innings powered Royal Challengers Bengaluru to the top of the table in the ongoing season.

Fastest to 14000 T20 runs

Kohli reached 14,000 runs in T20 cricket in 409 innings, making him the quickest batter to the milestone. He surpassed Chris Gayle, who took 423 innings to achieve the same feat. Kohli is now the sixth batter overall to reach 14,000 T20 runs and remains the first from India to accomplish this landmark. His consistency across formats continues to break records at an unprecedented pace.

IPL century dominance

Kohli has now recorded nine centuries in the IPL, two more than the next best, Jos Buttler, who has seven. Three of Kohli’s nine IPL hundreds have come while chasing, tying him with Buttler for the most successful chases by a batter in the league. His latest hundred against Kolkata Knight Riders was his first in the IPL after back-to-back ducks against Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians. This feat makes him the first batter in the IPL to score a hundred following two consecutive zeroes.

IPL longevity and milestones

Kohli has played 279 matches in the IPL, the most by any player in the league’s history. He surpassed the previous record held jointly by MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma, who had featured in 278 games each. Kohli also holds the record for the most player-of-the-match awards in the IPL among Indians, with 21, tying him with Rohit Sharma. Only AB de Villiers (25) and Chris Gayle (22) have more such awards in the league.

Kohli-Padikkal partnership

Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal share the record for the most fifty-plus stands in successful IPL chases by any pair, with ten such partnerships. Together, they have added 1,035 runs across 14 successful chases, including four century stands. Their partnership has been a key factor in Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s successful run chases in recent seasons. Kohli’s ability to stabilize the innings in pressure situations has made this duo a formidable force.

Midwicket scoring dominance

During his unbeaten 105 against Kolkata Knight Riders, Kohli scored 46 runs through the midwicket region, the highest he has ever accumulated through that area in a T20 innings. Only six other batters in the IPL have scored more runs through midwicket in a single innings. This highlights Kohli’s ability to manipulate field placements and score freely against spin and pace. His adaptability to different bowling attacks remains a major asset.

Raipur T20 record

Kohli’s 105* against Kolkata Knight Riders is the highest individual score in 33 men’s T20 matches hosted at Raipur. Kane Williamson is the only other batter to score a T20 hundred at this venue, with his 101* in 2014 during the Champions League T20 against Cape Cobras. Kohli’s innings now stands as the benchmark for batting performances in Raipur. The track has increasingly favored batters in recent years.

Historic chase after ducks

Kohli became the first batter in the IPL to score a hundred immediately after recording back-to-back ducks. His previous two outings saw him dismissed for zero against Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians, respectively. Before Kohli, five other batters had achieved a hundred after two consecutive ducks in T20 cricket. This group includes David Warner (102* in 2011), Rilee Rossouw (100* in 2022), Rohit Sharma (121* in 2024), Sanju Samson (109* in 2024), and Hasan Nawaz (105* in 2025).
