Unadkat's four wickets power Sussex to dominance on day one vs Glamorgan 2026
Jaydev Unadkat took four wickets as Sussex restricted Glamorgan to 155 in their County Championship opener at Hove in 2026.
First innings collapse Glamorgan were bowled out for 155 runs in 51.2 overs on the opening day of their County Championship Division One clash against Sussex at Hove. Tom Haines, leading Sussex for the first time since 2022 in Ollie Robinson's absence, won the toss and chose to bowl first. The visitors lost early wickets as Jaydev Unadkat led the attack with four wickets for 29 runs. Henry Crocombe and Haines each contributed two wickets to the Sussex bowling effort. ## Unadkat's standout spell Unadkat, making his first first-class appearance since January, made an immediate impact upon returning to the Sussex side. Playing his first game of the season, the left-armer exploited overcast conditions and lateral movement to trouble the Glamorgan batters from the outset. In his third over, he generated extra bounce with the new ball to dismiss Asa Tribe, caught behind off the back foot. Unadkat's return to the attack at the sea end saw him remove Dickson and Timm van der Gugten in consecutive overs, both caught in the cordon after nibbling deliveries. ## Glamorgan's partial recovery Glamorgan began their innings poorly, losing opener Zain-ul-Hassan to Sean Hunt's first Championship delivery of the season, which rose awkwardly to glove him. From 11 for two, Kiran Carson and Ben Kellaway added 51 runs before Sussex claimed successive wickets. Carlson was caught behind by wicketkeeper John Simpson off Tom Price, while Colin Ingram edged a Crocombe delivery to second slip. Kellaway and Sean Dickson then combined for a 51-run stand before Crocombe completed a brilliant return catch to dismiss Kellaway. ## Late resistance and Sussex's control Chris Cooke and Mason Crane put together a 32-run partnership for the eighth wicket, temporarily steadying Glamorgan's innings. Sussex bowlers regained control as Haines claimed two wickets, including a diving catch at the deep backward square boundary to dismiss Dickson. Unadkat showcased his athleticism with another catch, intercepting Ryan Hadley's drive inches from the turf. Overcast conditions persisted, yet Glamorgan's bowlers struggled to maintain consistency until the 21st over. ## Sussex's batting at stumps Sussex ended day one with a slender 19-run lead, reaching 136 for two wickets. Skipper Haines fell for 48 runs, but Daniel Hughes remained unbeaten on 48 and Jack Leaning added valuable runs. Tom Alsop's first Championship appearance of the season ended early when he edged van der Gugten's outswinger to slip. Tom Norton's 18-year-old debutant spell included the wicket of Haines, caught by Tribe at second slip two short of a half-century.
