Turner criticizes Bucks' lack of discipline under Rivers; Giannis late habit

Myles Turner says the Bucks had no fines for tardiness under Doc Rivers and Giannis Antetokounmpo often showed up late.

Turner on Bucks' culture Bucks center Myles Turner described a breakdown in professionalism during Doc Rivers' tenure in Milwaukee, stating the former coach never issued financial penalties for tardiness. Turner also pointed to Giannis Antetokounmpo as someone who took advantage of the loose environment, admitting the two-time MVP would arrive at his own convenience. 'Guys were late all the time,' Turner recalled while speaking on Breanna Stewart's 'Game Recognize Game' podcast. 'Guys were showing up to film whenever they wanted to show up. Guys were missing meetings. It was one of the craziest things I personally ever experienced.' ## Giannis called out for chronic lateness When asked by Stewart who was most frequently late during the past season, Turner had a clear response. 'Giannis. Giannis is going to show up whenever he wants, really,' Turner explained. 'I think that this kind of just came with the territory that -- and once I saw it was going down, I was like, "Hey man, s---, more power to you. They ain't going to fine you. S---, do what you do."' Turner admitted he eventually adopted a similar mindset as the season progressed. 'It was crazy, dawg,' he said. 'Guys were an hour late to the plane. It got to the point where I knew not to show up until an hour after they said the plane was taking off. It was crazy.' ## Rivers' exit and team issues The Bucks parted ways with Doc Rivers on April 13 after a disappointing 32-50 campaign that ended a nine-year playoff run. Reports indicated the Bucks and Rivers were discussing a potential advisory role before his departure. Sources described ongoing friction between coach and players throughout the season, including reports of half-hearted practices and a tense March meeting where Rivers delivered an 'either you're with us or against us' ultimatum. ## Bucks weighing Giannis' future Turner's remarks arrive as the Bucks reassess their roster around Antetokounmpo, who guided Milwaukee to the 2021 NBA championship. Earlier in the week, information suggested the franchise is actively exploring trade possibilities involving the two-time MVP. Antetokounmpo's preference is to leave Milwaukee, while co-owner Jimmy Haslam has indicated a resolution should be reached before the June 23-24 NBA draft. ## Turner expects stricter standards Turner reflected on the contrast between Milwaukee's approach and his prior teams, where fines were common for missed deadlines. 'Any other team I've been on, guys got fined. And there was a sense of order and a sense of understanding,' he noted. 'So yeah, you're late to the plane? Fine. You're late to treatment? Fine. You're late to film? Fine. But I personally did not experience that last year for the first time in my career.' Turner expressed curiosity about how new coach Taylor Jenkins will handle discipline now that he's taken over from Rivers.
