Tottenham land free signing of Argentine defender Senesi from Bournemouth in 2026
Tottenham have completed the free transfer signing of Marcos Senesi from Bournemouth after he rejected three contract extensions at his former club.
Senesi joins Spurs on July 1 Tottenham have finalized the free transfer acquisition of defender Marcos Senesi following his exit from Bournemouth. The 29-year-old is set to officially join Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on July 1, pending international clearance. Senesi featured in 37 of Bournemouth’s 38 Premier League fixtures during the 2025/26 season. He was released by Bournemouth earlier in the campaign after turning down three separate contract proposals from the club. ## Argentine defender expresses excitement The Argentina international, who has earned three senior caps, described his move to Tottenham as a "very special feeling". He noted that the club’s desire to have him was evident from the very beginning. "From the first moment, the club has shown why they want me and how much they want me to be a part of what they are building. It's exciting and something I can't wait to be involved in," Senesi stated. He spent four seasons at Bournemouth before departing. ## Senesi sets lofty goals with new club The central defender emphasized his commitment to delivering his best performances for the fans every time he steps onto the pitch. He pledged to help return Tottenham to its rightful standing within the club’s history. "Every time I step on the pitch, I will do my best to make the fans proud and to take the club back to the place it belongs. I want to win things with Tottenham and will do everything I can to make that happen," he added. Senesi will wear the number five shirt for his new team. ## Tottenham announce second free signing The Argentine defender becomes Tottenham’s second summer acquisition on a free transfer, following Andy Robertson’s move from Liverpool. Wales international Ben Davies, 33, has also agreed to a one-year contract extension to remain at the club for another season. Davies joined Tottenham in 2020 and has been a regular starter since. His contract ensures he will continue his defensive partnership in the upcoming campaign. ## De Zerbi praises new defensive addition Manager Roberto de Zerbi highlighted Senesi’s suitability for his possession-based system. "He's comfortable playing in a possession-based team, reads the game very well and has the personality to thrive in a demanding environment," the Italian coach explained. De Zerbi also praised Senesi’s attitude, noting his hunger for continuous improvement. "I also love his mentality and desire to keep improving and I'm looking forward to working with him and seeing the big contribution he can make to the team." ## Bissouma to leave Tottenham Tottenham confirmed that out-of-contract midfielder Yves Bissouma, 29, will depart the club this summer. Bissouma joined from Brighton in 2022 for a reported £30 million fee. During his time at Tottenham, he made 90 Premier League appearances. His departure follows the club’s decision not to renew his contract.
