SRH shatter Wankhede T20 record with highest ever IPL chase in 2026

Sunrisers Hyderabad chased down 244 runs at Wankhede Stadium, the highest T20 total ever successfully defended there.

Sunrisers Hyderabad's 244-run target was the fourth highest ever chased in IPL history, surpassing all previous T20 totals at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium. This chase marked their second-best run chase, surpassing the 246 they achieved against Punjab Kings last season. Notably, three of the top five highest successful chases this season have been recorded by either Punjab Kings or SRH, demonstrating their dominance in high-scoring encounters.

The match produced 32 sixes, the highest ever in an IPL game at the Wankhede Stadium. This tally matched the second-highest six count in any IPL match this season, alongside the 33 sixes scored in Delhi Capitals versus Punjab Kings. Only one instance of more sixes has occurred at this venue, during an international match last month when India and England combined for 34 maximums.

A combined 170 runs were scored in the powerplay phases across both innings, with SRH contributing 92 and Mumbai Indians 78. This figure stands just two runs short of the Wankhede record for powerplay runs, set during the 2016 T20 World Cup clash between England and South Africa. Another IPL fixture in 2014 between Chennai Super Kings and Kings XI Punjab also produced an identical 170-run powerplay tally.

Mumbai Indians conceded 92 runs in the powerplay, tying their worst-ever powerplay leak in an IPL match. They had previously leaked the same number against Delhi Capitals in 2024. Despite this defensive collapse, their powerplay total ranks only fifth highest this season, with Punjab Kings topping the chart after scoring 116 against Delhi Capitals, while SRH themselves managed 105 against Punjab Kings.

Jasprit Bumrah conceded 54 runs in his four overs, the fifth-highest total conceded by him in any T20 match. His previous IPL leaks of 56 against Chennai Super Kings in 2021 and 55 against Delhi Daredevils in 2015 were similarly damaging. Bumrah's worst performance this season came in Thiruvananthapuram, where he gave away 58 runs against New Zealand. His five sixes conceded in this game also tied his joint-worst figures, matching a 2015 IPL match against Delhi Daredevils.

Mumbai Indians posted their highest-ever first-innings total of 243 runs, surpassing all previous totals when batting first. Their two previous highest scores—247 and 246—had both occurred in unsuccessful chases. The loss to SRH means Mumbai's three highest totals have all come in matches they ultimately lost.

Ryan Rickelton's 123-run innings against SRH stands as the highest individual score by a Mumbai Indians batter, eclipsing Sanath Jayasuriya's unbeaten 114 from the league's inaugural season. The next-best score for Mumbai is also by a left-handed opener, Quinton de Kock's unbeaten 112 against Punjab Kings earlier this season.

The victory marked SRH's 100th IPL win, including Super Over triumphs, making them the eighth team to reach this milestone in the competition's history.
