SRH rope in Ambrish to fill Mavi-shaped hole in 2026

Sunrisers Hyderabad bolster their fast-bowling stocks by signing Ambrish as a replacement for the unavailable Mavi ahead of the 2026 season.

New signing details Sunrisers Hyderabad had secured Mavi earlier in the auction for his base price of INR 75 lakh, though the pacer did not feature in any fixture throughout the ongoing campaign. With the injury list in the pace department growing, the franchise acted swiftly to rope in Ambrish as a stand-in player. The move comes as SRH look to plug the gaps left by multiple fast-bowling absences this season. ## Ambrish's cricketing journey Ambrish earned his maiden India Under-19 call-up as part of the side that lifted the 2026 Under-19 World Cup trophy. He finished the tournament as India’s leading wicket-taker, claiming 11 victims in total. During the final against England, he contributed three dismissals, including the breakthrough that shifted momentum before India defended 412 runs. The youngster, a left-handed batter and right-arm medium pacer, had also featured in India U-19 tours of England and Australia, as well as the U-19 Asia Cup leading up to the World Cup triumph. ## Fast-bowling crisis deepens SRH’s fast-bowling unit has been hit hard this season, with captain Pat Cummins missing the season’s first four matches while regaining fitness. Fast-bowling all-rounder Jack Edwards was ruled out before the campaign with a foot injury, while English seamer Brydon Carse and compatriot David Payne also missed time early in the tournament after picking up niggles. The loss of these bowlers forced Sunrisers to seek reinforcements to keep their playoff hopes alive. ## Team momentum and next fixture Sunrisers Hyderabad have reeled off five consecutive victories and now sit third on the points table with 12 points from nine matches. They share this tally with two other franchises, keeping their playoff aspirations firmly in play. The franchise will look to maintain their surge when they host Kolkata Knight Riders in a day game on Sunday, May 3 at their home ground.
