Somerset sign South Africa batter Jordan Hermann for three County Championship matches in 2026

Somerset have signed South African batter Jordan Hermann for the next three County Championship matches to bolster their struggling batting lineup.

Somerset secure Hermann Somerset have finalized the signing of South African batter Jordan Hermann to play in the next three County Championship fixtures. The 24-year-old arrives as Somerset face a shortage of key batters due to recent injuries. Tom Kohler-Cadmore remains unavailable with a fractured thumb, Lewis Goldworthy is dealing with a hamstring issue, and Tom Banton has not featured this season because of a finger injury. Hermann will take the field in matches against Sussex, Nottinghamshire, and Warwickshire. ## Club addresses batting crisis The county has highlighted the need to reinforce its batting department after a series of setbacks. Director of cricket Andy Hurry stated that multiple injuries to primary batters prompted the move. He added, "We have suffered a number of injuries to key batters in the last month, so we felt that this was the perfect opportunity to strengthen the batting line up, and Jordan will certainly help to strengthen our options in that department." Hermann brings experience from over 40 first-class appearances, where he has accumulated more than 3,000 runs. ## Hermann's recent involvement Hermann was recently included in South Africa's squad for the first time, featuring in their T20 victory over New Zealand. However, an injury cut short his involvement in the series before it concluded. His addition to Somerset comes as the club prepares to face Glamorgan in search of their third County Championship win in four matches. ## Long-term Somerset news Thomas has agreed to a two-year extension with Somerset, finalized a day prior to this announcement. The extension ensures his continued presence at the club beyond the current season.
