Somerset retain coach Jason Kerr through 2028 after three trophies
Somerset have extended head coach Jason Kerr’s contract for two more years, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2028 season.
Contract extension details Jason Kerr, Somerset’s head coach, has signed a fresh two-year agreement that secures his position at the County Ground until at least the conclusion of the 2028 campaign. The 52-year-old former Somerset all-rounder has led the side since 2018. Under his guidance, Somerset finished third in Division One of the County Championship last season and lifted the One-Day Cup in 2019, plus the Vitality Blast in both 2023 and 2025. ## Coach’s pathway to leadership Before taking charge of the first team, Kerr oversaw the club’s academy and second XI from 2005 until 2015. He then transitioned into a bowling coach role for the senior squad before being promoted to head coach. When discussing his renewed commitment, Kerr told the club website: 'My hunger and desire to be successful and to develop players only gets stronger.' He added: 'It's incredibly exciting when you look at the potential of the club. The group of players we have can achieve great things. It's been an incredible journey so far and one that's brought successes to the club. Hopefully, we can add to that success in the coming years.' ## Club officials praise Kerr’s impact Somerset’s director of cricket, Andy Hurry, highlighted Kerr’s dedication as immediately obvious. Hurry noted that alongside securing three major titles, Kerr has fostered a dressing-room environment where players and staff can flourish. He pointed out that numerous individuals connected to the club have been chosen for global tournaments and international matches in recent years. ## Strong start to current season Somerset have maintained an unbeaten record across their opening three County Championship fixtures this term. The side has recorded two victories and settled for a draw, placing them second in the standings. Warwickshire currently sit above them, having played one additional match.
