Simon Helmot departs Melbourne Renegades after five seasons as WBBL coach, including their 2024 title win.
Simon Helmot will leave his role as Melbourne Renegades’ women’s coach in 2026 after five years with the club.
Currently assisting Sunrisers Hyderabad under Dan Vettori, he took charge of the Renegades’ women’s team in 2021 and guided them to their first WBBL title in 2024.
Though he signed a three-season extension following the championship, he only completed one more season in 2025, finishing fifth.
The 54-year-old is now seeking new opportunities beyond the club.
James Rosengarten, the Renegades’ General Manager, reflected on Helmot’s impact during his tenure.
He praised the coach as an extraordinary leader who left a lasting mark both on and off the field.
Rosengarten highlighted Helmot’s strong relationships with players, staff, and fans, as well as his influence in shaping the club’s culture and Victorian cricket.
He extended well-wishes for Helmot’s future, noting he will always be part of the Renegades family.
Helmot’s connection to the Renegades dates back to the inaugural Big Bash League season in 2011–12, when he served as the men’s BBL coach for four years.
After leaving that role, he expanded his coaching career internationally, working with various franchises and winning a championship in the Caribbean Premier League.
His departure concludes a major chapter in both the women’s and men’s programs.
The timing of his exit, shortly after the Renegades’ fifth-place finish in 2025, suggests a shift in direction for the franchise.
While the club has yet to name a replacement, Helmot’s legacy as the architect of their first WBBL title will remain central to their history.
His contributions have set a high standard for future coaches.
With Helmot’s departure, the Renegades enter a transitional phase as they search for his successor.
His global coaching experience and championship pedigree make him a sought-after figure in women’s cricket.
Fans and colleagues will remember him not only for the trophy he delivered but also for the culture he built within the club.
