Sarfaraz named Pakistan head coach for Bangladesh Tests in 2026

Pakistan has appointed Sarfaraz as head coach and named four uncapped players for the two-Test series against Bangladesh in May 2026.

Sarfaraz Ahmad has been appointed as the head coach of Pakistan's Test team, a significant development in the country's cricket setup.

This move comes after Sarfaraz stepped away from international cricket last month.

As a player, he led Pakistan to Champions Trophy glory in 2017 and has recently served as a mentor for the Pakistan Shaheens against England Lions.

Sarfaraz will be joined by experienced former Test players Asad Shafiq and Umar Gul, who will take on the roles of batting and bowling coaches, respectively.

Shan Masood, who has retained the captaincy, will now lead a revamped support staff.

This fresh setup is expected to bring new energy to the team as they prepare to face Bangladesh in a two-Test series.

The Pakistan squad for the series features four debutants, with only Muhammad Ghazi Ghori bringing prior international experience, having featured in a single ODI against Pakistan in Mirpur last month.

The rest of the squad is comprised of uncapped players, with five of them already training at Lahore's National Cricket Academy for red-ball conditioning.

The pre-series camp in Karachi will be a crucial period for the team, allowing them to fine-tune their skills and strategies before the series begins.

Players still in the PSL 2026 will join after their teams' elimination, with the squad set to depart for Bangladesh on May 2.

The PCB's statement outlined these travel arrangements to ensure minimal disruption for league-bound players.

As the series approaches, fans can expect a thrilling contest between Pakistan and Bangladesh.

The two-Test series begins in Dhaka on May 8 and continues in Sylhet from May 16 to 20.

With a revamped support staff and a young squad, Pakistan will look to bounce back from recent setbacks and claim victory in the series.
