Rickelton and Rohit combined for 143 runs in a 229-run chase, with Rickelton scoring 83 off 32 balls to power MI to victory against LSG in IPL 2026.
Rickelton highlighted the seamless 'chemistry' between himself and Rohit as the key to their successful batting partnerships. After their explosive 143-run stand in a 229-run chase, where Rickelton hammered 83 off 32 balls while Rohit returned from injury, he shared his thoughts at the post-match press conference.
'I think Rohit is just really good, that's the chemistry right there,' Rickelton remarked.
'Obviously nice to get up there again with him, he's obviously been on the sideline for a bit and to see him come back and play the way he did, so free-flowing, is something quite unique.'
Rickelton explained how their contrasting left-hand and right-hand styles create balance in their approach at the crease.
'Sometimes he gets away really quickly and takes a lot of pressure off me, and sometimes I get away quickly and take a lot of pressure off him,' he noted.
'So that was probably tonight, but I got away, and coming back from five or six games, he gave himself a few balls to just get back to batting again in his routines, and then obviously transferring that pressure onto the bowlers, and it is a dream to watch.'
He also praised Rohit’s ability to dominate bowlers in full flow, calling it 'a treat' that eases pressure on him.
Since Rickelton joined Mumbai Indians in 2025, he and Rohit have batted together 18 times, amassing 825 runs with three century stands and two fifty stands.
Rickelton reflected on learning from Rohit’s experience early in their partnership, particularly about handling pressure in different formats.
'[I] probably picked his [Rohit's] brain a little bit more first year, just about batting in general, not necessarily T20 batting - Tests and 50-over batting and the specifics of the mentality around it,' he said.
'It's just more how he manages pressure, how he stays calm and how he backs his ability and understands his game really well.'
Rickelton has delivered standout performances this year, compiling 931 runs in 21 matches at a strike rate of 171.13 in T20s.
His home advantage at the Wankhede Stadium has been particularly notable, where he averages 54.50 across 12 IPL appearances, including one century and four half-centuries.
He credited team manager Rahul Sanghvi for helping him adapt his game to the Wankhede’s pace and bounce, which resemble conditions he experienced at the Wanderers in Johannesburg.
Rickelton admitted he was skeptical when Sanghvi predicted his game would thrive at Wankhede, given his background at the Wanderers.
'I didn't believe it when he was telling me what this pitch would turn out to be for me,' he recalled.
'I really enjoy it. There's nice pace in it. You get great value for shots and the ball really flies here.'
He added that he continues to refine his approach both at home and while traveling, aiming to solidify his role at the ground.
Rickelton and Quinton de Kock have shared opening duties this season, with Rickelton initially starting ahead before teaming up when Rohit was absent.
