In 1974, McKechnie moved to Vancouver with $300 and no job, setting up a career that would redefine sports physiotherapy. A car accident that injured his father and brother redirected him from football to physiotherapy studies in Leeds. He pioneered ACL injury rehab by linking rehabilitation to core strength and pelvic control using elastic bands. His innovative wobble board, inspired by spring-mounted horses, became a global fitness product after Reebok licensed it in 1999. He won six NBA championships as a physiotherapist and later helped the Toronto Raptors secure their first title in 2019.
