Nickeil Alexander-Walker wins 2026 NBA Most Improved Player award

Nickeil Alexander-Walker earns NBA Most Improved Player honors for 2026 after posting career-best numbers.

Nickeil Alexander-Walker won the 2026 NBA Most Improved Player award, becoming the second consecutive Atlanta Hawks player to claim the honor.

The 6-5 guard compiled career highs across multiple categories, finishing with averages of 20.8 points, 3.7 assists, and 3.4 rebounds per contest, along with 1.3 steals each game.

His field goal percentage and three-point shooting percentage also reached new personal bests, while his block average set a new high.

This marks the third-largest single-season scoring jump in the past 25 NBA campaigns, with Alexander-Walker improving by 11.4 points compared to his 9.4-point average during his reserve role with the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2024-25.

Hawks head coach Quin Snyder praised Alexander-Walker’s dedication, work ethic, and unselfish attitude, calling him incredibly deserving of the award.

Alexander-Walker follows teammate Dyson Daniels, who claimed the award the previous season, marking the first time two consecutive winners came from the same organization.

The guard enters his seventh NBA campaign and delivered a standout performance with the Hawks, including a free agency recruitment where he noted multiple suitors before committing after discussions with former Hawks point guard Trae Young.

Despite Young suffering a knee injury early in the year and later being traded to Washington, Alexander-Walker helped Atlanta secure a playoff berth.

He reached double figures in scoring 76 times and shattered the franchise single-season three-pointer record with 251 makes, placing fourth league-wide.

Hawks general manager Onsi Saleh issued a statement congratulating Alexander-Walker, praising his professionalism and commitment to improvement in all aspects of the game.
