Mount boldly predicts Manchester United can win Premier League in 2026

Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount declares his side has the mentality and talent to end their 13-year Premier League title drought next season.

Mount's title ambition

Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount firmly believes his team possesses both the quality and mindset to claim the Premier League trophy in the upcoming season. It has been 13 years since the club last won the league, a drought that ended during Sir Alex Ferguson’s final year in charge. United concluded last season in 15th place, but securing a victory over Liverpool would guarantee a return to the Champions League at Old Trafford.

Mount, now 27, is already focused on the next campaign and views ending the long-standing title drought as the ultimate objective. 'I’ve won the Champions League already, so I have a goal of winning the Premier League,' he stated. 'Can we do that? Yes, I think we can.'

Proving against elite opponents

Mount emphasized that the team has already demonstrated its capability against top sides, citing wins over Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Arsenal. 'We’ve shown what we can do against the big teams already,' he noted. 'Now it’s about doing it on a bigger stage in the Champions League and doing it more consistently in the Premier League.' He also expressed his desire to play a central role in the club’s future success. 'Hopefully, I will be a massive part of that moving forward next season.'

Mount's role under Carrick

There have been discussions regarding Mason Mount’s position at Manchester United this season. He featured in 20 of the club’s 34 Premier League matches but started only 10 and none since the win over Newcastle on December 26. Mount had appeared well-suited to the number 10 role in Ruben Amorim’s system, but his role under Michael Carrick seems less defined. Despite this, Carrick has publicly backed Mount, and the midfielder, who narrowly missed an England recall under Thomas Tuchel due to recurring injuries, is confident he can make a meaningful contribution to the team’s pursuit of trophies.

Unwavering self-belief

Mount reiterated his confidence in his abilities, stressing that he understands his strengths and what he brings to the team. 'I will always back myself,' he declared. 'I know what I’m about and what I can bring. I love being a part of a massive club. It’s my third season and it’s flown.' He also reflected on his growing experience and the importance of helping the club return to its rightful place at the top of English football. 'There are going to be a lot more games next season. Being a part of getting this club back to the top, where it deserves to be, is super special.'

FA Cup success and future dreams

Mount spoke less than a day after helping United secure a home win over Brentford, which leaves them needing just two points from their remaining four fixtures to secure a return to Europe’s top club competition. Reflecting on his time at the club so far, he highlighted the recent FA Cup triumph as an unforgettable moment. 'I’ve had a little taste of winning something with the club, in the FA Cup. That was unbelievable. To do a Premier League? I can’t even imagine how special that would be.' He also shared his enjoyment of a charitable event he funded and organized, where he led a team of children with critical illnesses to a 32-2 victory over Premier League mascots. 'I loved the experience,' he said, and did not rule out pursuing a coaching career in the future.

Carrick's leadership praised

Mount expressed admiration for Manchester United manager Michael Carrick, describing him as a brilliant figure for the squad. 'He’s been brilliant for me,' Mount said. 'As a midfielder, I looked up to him when he played. He was an absolute maestro which is something I’ve always looked to do.' Mount admitted initial challenges as injuries delayed his integration under Carrick, but the manager reassured him of his importance to the team. 'He said: 'I want you back, you’re a massive part of the team and when you’re around the lads you obviously have a big effect',' Mount recalled. He praised Carrick’s calm and knowledgeable approach, highlighting how the manager’s tactical insights have improved performances, even in tough matches.

Holland's tactical influence

Mount also spoke highly of Carrick’s assistant Steve Holland, crediting him with playing a crucial role in the coaching setup. Holland, who worked with Mount at Chelsea and England, is seen as the stabilizing force within the relatively inexperienced coaching team. Mount shared an early example of Holland’s impact, recalling how he delivered a bold message to the players just after Carrick took charge. 'He’s got such a football brain,' Mount said. 'If he sees something, he’ll know what to say, and he’s not afraid to say it.' Mount noted that Holland’s tactical awareness and confidence have been evident from day one, with his input helping shape the team’s approach both on and off the pitch.
