Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz was struck on the head by a bouncer and later taken to hospital for concussion checks during a match in 2026.
Incident on the field Mehidy Hasan Miraz was hit on the side of his helmet by a bouncer bowled by Riley Meredith during the fourth delivery of the 34th over while Bangladesh was chasing. The blow made him clutch his head and he immediately dropped to his knees. Bangladesh team physiotherapist Bayjedul Islam Khan began a concussion assessment, but Mehidy appeared to vomit shortly after. The Australian team doctor also arrived on the scene as medical staff prepared a stretcher, though he stood up moments later and the stretcher was taken away. ## Medical assessment and hospital transfer Bayjedul Islam Khan confirmed after the game that Mehidy Hasan Miraz had suffered a concussion. Despite passing the on-field assessment, he was sent to hospital for further evaluation and observation. The medical team planned to keep him under supervision for 24 hours. Later reports stated he was out of danger but remained hospitalized past midnight into the following day. ## Post-match reactions Najmul Hossain Shanto stood in for Mehidy during the post-match presentation ceremony. Taskin Ahmed later commended Mehidy’s resilience, saying, "It was incredible of Miraz to bat in that condition. I think he took a quick decision that if he walks off, the new batter could be prone to making a mistake in that pressure situation."
