Matthew Hayden named Glasgow T20 franchise coach for ETPL 2026
Former Australia opener Matthew Hayden will coach Glasgow Cosmic in the inaugural European T20 Premier League tournament.
Hayden confirmed as Glasgow coach Former Australia batter Matthew Hayden is set to be named head coach of the European T20 Premier League's Glasgow franchise. Glasgow Cosmic will feature in the tournament's first edition, running from 26 August to 20 September. Hayden has been active in coaching and commentary roles since retiring from playing in 2012. His latest coaching role was as batting coach for the Gujarat Titans during the 2026 Indian Premier League season. ## Hayden's cricket career highlights Matthew Hayden accumulated 15,066 runs across all formats during his international career, which spanned from 1993 to 2009. He featured in 103 Test matches, 161 one-day internationals, and nine T20 internationals for Australia. His Test record includes 8,625 runs in 184 innings at an average of 50.73. Hayden previously held coaching and mentoring positions with Pakistan's team from 2021 until after the 2022 T20 World Cup. ## Assistant coach and team signings Matthew Mott, a fellow Queenslander, will serve as Hayden's assistant at Glasgow Cosmic. Mott formerly coached England's white-ball teams between 2022 and 2024. Several players have already committed to Glasgow, including New Zealand opener Finn Allen, South Africa fast bowler Lungi Ngidi, and former England all-rounder Liam Livingstone. ## ETPL tournament structure and investors The European T20 Premier League involves cricket boards from Ireland, Scotland, and the Netherlands. Teams will be based in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Belfast, Dublin, Glasgow, and Edinburgh. Glasgow Cosmic is supported by the Mugafi Group, an India-based entertainment company. Former Australia captain Steve Waugh and India legend Rahul Dravid have invested in additional ETPL franchises. ## League ownership and venues Bollywood actor and producer Abhishek Bachchan co-owns the league alongside Rules Sport Tech. The inaugural tournament will be hosted in The Hague and Dublin. Rahul Dravid has also been named as a co-owner of the Dublin franchise. Players and franchises have finalized agreements ahead of the tournament's launch.
