Man City closing in on WSL title ahead of Brighton clash 2026
Manchester City lead the WSL by nine points and can clinch the title next week with a Brighton win and an Arsenal defeat.
Title race update Manchester City currently sit at the top of the Women's Super League standings with a nine-point advantage over second-placed Chelsea. A victory over Brighton on Saturday at 12:00 BST, combined with an Arsenal loss to Leicester City on Wednesday at 19:00 BST, would secure the club's first league title in a decade. The Citizens are eight points clear with two matches remaining, needing to reach 54 points unless Arsenal suffer defeat. Arsenal, who occupy third place, still have two games in hand. ## Manager's focus remains unwavering Andree Jeglertz, Manchester City's manager, acknowledged the team's awareness of the title situation but emphasized it does not alter their approach. He stated, "We are definitely aware of the situation, fully aware. The situation is up to us and we cannot affect anything happening in the other game." Jeglertz stressed that the team's sole focus is on securing a win against Brighton this weekend, with no attention paid to other fixtures. "We haven't put any attention on the other teams, it's just on how we can beat Brighton this weekend." ## Rising energy ahead of season finale Jeglertz noted an increase in energy among the players as the campaign nears its conclusion. He added that the team remains fully committed to their usual routines despite the title race intensifying. "We have done everything like we normally do and we're not changing anything. Everybody is fully focused but of course, there is extra energy in the group when you know you've done an almost perfect season." The manager also highlighted the positive atmosphere in training sessions, attributing some of it to Manchester's sunny weather. "The confidence is great because we know how the league can end, is up to us. That gives us confidence and great energy in the training sessions, of course. The sun is shining in Manchester also so that gives us extra energy!" ## Upcoming domestic double bid Manchester City have one more major challenge this season, an FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea scheduled for 10 May. The club is aiming for a domestic double, combining the WSL title with FA Cup success.
