Lewandowski ends Barcelona stay with contract expiry in 2026

Robert Lewandowski will leave Barcelona this summer after his contract concludes, having helped the club win three league titles.

Departure announcement Robert Lewandowski announced on Instagram that he will leave Barcelona at the end of his contract this summer. The Poland striker joined the club in 2022 after spending eight years at Bayern Munich. In his four seasons at Barcelona, he scored 119 goals in 191 appearances. His contributions helped the side win three La Liga titles, including the most recent one in 2026, as well as the 2025 Copa del Rey. ## Reflection on his time Lewandowski shared his thoughts on his Barcelona journey, stating, 'After four years full of challenges and hard work, it's time to move on.' He added, 'I leave with the feeling that the mission is complete. Four seasons, three championships.' Despite injuries limiting his appearances recently, he played a role in the title-winning campaign. His goal in the 2-1 win over Osasuna in early May was pivotal in securing the league triumph. ## Injuries and final matches The 37-year-old has faced several injuries over the past year and made just 15 league starts this season. Lewandowski made a late substitute appearance in the Clasico victory over Real Madrid, which confirmed Barcelona as champions. His final game for the club will be against Real Betis at the Spotify Camp Nou on Sunday. Barcelona will finish their league campaign the following Saturday with an away match at Valencia. ## Interest from elsewhere Last December, talks were held between Lewandowski and Major League Soccer’s Chicago Fire regarding a potential move. Despite this, he remained focused on his role at Barcelona until the end of the season. His leadership and experience were still valued, even as he neared the close of his time at the club. ## Emotional farewell to fans Lewandowski expressed deep gratitude for the support he received from Barcelona’s supporters, saying, 'Barca is back where it belongs. I will never forget the love I received from the fans from my very first days. Catalonia is my place on earth.' His emotional connection with the club and its fans was a recurring theme in his message. ## Coach's praise for the striker Barcelona manager Hansi Flick, who previously coached Lewandowski at Bayern Munich, confirmed he would start the forward against Betis. Flick reflected on their long working relationship, stating, 'He spoke with the team, said goodbye, and that it was a great time for him here in Barcelona.' He added, 'I've worked with Robert now for years, and we won together nine [trophies] - all the titles I've won were with him.' ## Flick's admiration for Lewandowski Flick continued to praise Lewandowski’s professionalism and dedication, saying, 'For me it's a privilege to work with him. He's a professional player. Every day he gave the best with his body to be at the highest level.' He described Lewandowski as 'a perfect role model for young players - a fantastic human, but also a world-class player. This is why he's still playing at this level.' ## Club's tribute to legend Barcelona released a statement paying tribute to Lewandowski, expressing gratitude for his contributions. The club wrote, 'Thank you, Robert Lewandowski, for every goal, every [bit of] fight, and every magical moment wearing these colours. He arrived as a star, he leaves as a legend.' The message highlighted his impact both on and off the pitch during his time at the club.
