Lancashire Uncertain About Captain Anderson's Availability for Durham
Lancashire head coach Steven Croft is uncertain about James Anderson's fitness for their County Championship game against Durham.
Lancashire Captain James Anderson's Fitness Status Lancashire head coach Steven Croft expressed doubts about captain James Anderson's participation in the upcoming County Championship game against Durham. Anderson has played in all three games so far, leading Lancashire to two wins and a draw, which puts them at the top of Division Two. The 43-year-old is also the highest wicket-taker this season with 21 wickets at an average of 12.09. Anderson's workload is a concern, having bowled one ball shy of 100 overs across 12 days of cricket in three weeks. ## Anderson's Recent Performances Anderson has been in excellent form, opening the season with a five-wicket haul at Northamptonshire and then producing a match-winning spell of 4-18 as Lancashire successfully defended a target of 138 against Derbyshire last week. In the game against Gloucestershire, he broke the game open in the third innings with three wickets in four balls, as the hosts slipped from 294-5 to 297-8, allowing Lancashire to successfully chase down 202. These results have taken the Red Rose to the top, above Durham, whom they face in the next round of games. ## Concerns About Anderson's Workload With a week off after this fixture, Lancashire head coach Steven Croft and his captain will have to weigh up the merits of whether to push Anderson into a fourth successive game. Croft stated, 'The performance he's not just put in on Sunday, but in the whole season so far, a 21-year-old would be feeling it.' He added, 'Hopefully he can be fit, but we'll just have to assess in the next few days.' ## Injuries to Lancashire Players Two players who will definitely not be heading to Durham are opener Luke Wells, who dislocated his shoulder, and fast bowler Ajeet Singh Dale, who picked up a hamstring injury, both during the game at Bristol.
