Josh Thomas agrees two-year Somerset contract through 2028

Josh Thomas has extended his Somerset stay with a new two-year deal running until the end of the 2028 season.

New contract details All-rounder Josh Thomas has finalized a two-year agreement with Somerset that keeps him at the club until the conclusion of the 2028 campaign. Over the past three years since his debut in 2022, Thomas has taken part in 31 first-class and List A matches for Somerset, accumulating 700 runs. He has already played in all four County Championship fixtures this season, compiling 260 runs with a career-topping 136 scored during the loss to Yorkshire. ## Club praise for young talent The club’s director of cricket Andy Hurry reflected on Thomas’s progress since joining the first team. Hurry noted that Thomas has delivered several standout displays that underscore his promise. These opportunities have given him meaningful lessons while helping him mature both as a player and an individual. "Since making his first XI debut, we've seen a number of performances that have highlighted Josh's potential," said Hurry. "Those experiences have provided him with some really valuable learning opportunities, and we've seen him continue to grow as a professional, both on and off the field." ## Player’s own words on extension Thomas, who has also competed for England at under-19 level, shared his thoughts on the new deal. He expressed a desire to remain a regular in the first team and hopes to feature in the upcoming Blast competition. "It would be good to stay in the first team for as long as possible and hopefully I can get an opportunity in the Blast, but I'm trying to not look too far ahead. I worked really hard this winter, and I'm really pleased that that's paid off."
