Eighteen-year-old Jesse Derry made his first competitive start for Chelsea in their match against Nottingham Forest on Monday, but his debut took a worrying turn when he collided with Forest player Zach Abbott in the 45th minute.
The clash forced a lengthy stoppage as medical staff immediately attended to Derry on the pitch. He required oxygen before being stretchered off for precautionary hospital checks.
The club confirmed he was conscious and speaking while undergoing further evaluation.

The teenager comes from a footballing family, being the son of former Leeds United and Crystal Palace midfielder Shaun Derry.

Premier League teams are permitted one concussion substitute per game, which does not count toward their regular substitution quota.
