Former Liverpool and England defender Jamie Carragher has joined Marine FC in an advisory capacity.
Bootle-born Jamie Carragher has taken on an advisory role with his nearby sixth-tier club Marine FC. The former Liverpool and England defender, who made 737 appearances for the Reds, will assist the Crosby-based club from Rossett Park. Carragher lives close to the ground and has watched Marine’s rise through the National League North ranks. His involvement comes as the club eyes further growth under his guidance.
Marine FC finished 12th in the 2025-26 National League North season, 11 points behind the play-off places. Despite the gap, the club remains focused on long-term progress and has high hopes for the future. They have leveraged Carragher’s extensive network within football to support their development plans. Marine’s leadership believes his connections will help accelerate the club’s ambitions significantly.
Marine is a proper community football club with good people involved and a clear vision for where it wants to go. He added, “I’ve enjoyed watching the progress the club has made over recent years and I’m pleased to be able to support the club in an advisory capacity going forward.” His words highlight his personal connection to both the club and the local area.
Marine have secured two promotions in the last five seasons, marking a period of sustained success. During the second Covid lockdown in January 2021, the club raised over £300,000 through virtual ticket sales for their FA Cup third-round clash with Tottenham Hotspur. These funds have contributed to their ongoing development projects, including a planned move from their current 3,000-capacity Rossett Park stadium.
The club aims to relocate to a new ground and intends to submit a planning application to the local council by September. Marine’s CEO James Leary described Carragher’s appointment as “a brilliant moment for Marine Football Club.” Leary emphasized, “Jamie is someone who genuinely cares about football and the local community and he’s followed closely what we’ve been building here over the last few years. His experience and relationships will be a huge help to the club as we continue moving Marine forward over the coming years.”
