IPL faces scrutiny over security breaches in 2026 tournament
The IPL's anti-corruption unit reported unauthorized access in team areas to the BCCI, prompting strict new guidelines.
ACSU flags security lapses Arun Dhumal, the chairman of the IPL, disclosed that the Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) had submitted a formal report to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) highlighting critical irregularities. The report specifically pointed out the presence of unauthorized individuals in restricted zones such as dugouts, team buses, and hotel accommodations during IPL matches. Dhumal emphasized that certain protocols outlined in the Prevention of Malpractice in Official Matches Act (PMOA) must be strictly adhered to. He further stated that the BCCI would issue a directive to all franchises, urging them to comply with standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure the tournament's integrity is maintained. ## BCCI identifies franchise violations Devajit Saikia, the BCCI secretary, revealed that multiple franchises and players had been involved in various anomalies and irregularities during the ongoing IPL season. He noted that team owners and officials had been observed in areas restricted to players, which is strictly prohibited. Saikia explained that the governing body, along with the IPL, is preparing an advisory notice to address these issues. The notice aims to curb the movement of unauthorized personnel within team environments, including hotels and private player or official rooms. He stressed that these breaches directly violate established anti-corruption protocols. ## Strict measures to enforce compliance Saikia confirmed that the BCCI and IPL are taking these violations extremely seriously and will issue a strict advisory to all stakeholders. He warned that any future breaches of the security protocols would result in severe consequences, including stringent disciplinary action. The advisory will outline clear guidelines to prevent unauthorized access and ensure adherence to the SOPs. Saikia emphasized that the measures are designed to restore the sanctity of the tournament and protect its credibility. He added that the BCCI is committed to maintaining a corruption-free environment throughout the competition.
