Injury occurs in sixth over The incident happened on the first delivery of the sixth over when Netherlands batter Phebe Molkenboer guided the ball to the leg side, prompting Patil to sprint after it in an attempt to prevent a single. As she reached down to collect the ball and pivot, her right ankle buckled, and she collapsed instantly. Patil immediately clutched her injured ankle while the Indian team physiotherapist sprinted onto the field. When she attempted to rise with assistance, she was unable to bear any weight on her right leg. ## Patil taken off the field After struggling to stand, Patil was carefully lifted onto a stretcher and then transferred to a cart to be taken out of play. Shafali Verma bowled the remaining deliveries of the sixth over, while Radha Yadav took over Patil’s fielding duties as her replacement. ## History of injuries before recovery Patil had missed significant portions of the 2024 and 2025 seasons due to a series of injuries. Her troubles began in July 2024 when she suffered a fracture in her left hand, followed by shin splints in both legs and later a stress reaction in her wrist. She finally regained full fitness in September 2025 after featuring for Barbados Royals in the Women's CPL and later playing for RCB in the WPL earlier in 2026. ## India’s upcoming fixtures in the tournament This match marked India’s second group-stage game in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, coming on the heels of their opening victory against Pakistan in Birmingham.
