Hosein Proves Himself with Jadeja-esque Control in IPL Match
Akeal Hosein showcases his exceptional bowling skills with Jadeja-esque control in an IPL match, taking crucial wickets and earning praise from his coach.
Reinstatement and New Challenge Just one match after being left out due to a specific match-up, Akeal Hosein returned to Chennai Super Kings' attack, ready to face Quinton de Kock, a destructive left-hand opener, with a new ball. This was a new challenge for Hosein, as he had been replaced by Matthew Short, who bowls offspin, in the previous match. CSK were up against Sunrisers Hyderabad, one of the most destructive left-left opening pairs in the world. The pitch at Wankhede Stadium had already seen Chennai Super Kings score 207 runs, setting a challenging target for Sunrisers Hyderabad. ## Hosein's Return to Form Hosein was back to doing what he does best - bowling in the powerplay and using his seam-up arm ball to keep things tight. His plan was clear: bowl from around the wicket to de Kock, angle and swerve the ball across him, away from his hitting arc, without offering too much room. However, his second ball was slightly off-target, pitching outside leg stump and allowing de Kock to target his favourite area with a ruthless swivel-sweep for six. Yet, either side of that, Hosein was on the money, quick and on a good length, restricting de Kock to punches and stabs to fielders in the off-side inner ring. ## Hosein's Skills on Full Display Against Danish Malewar, a right-handed rookie in his second IPL game, Hosein had room to be a little more expansive. With his ability to bowl at high pace and with extreme accuracy, Hosein showcased his skills, often considered a stock speed for most spinners, but for him, it was a characteristic that sets him apart. His ball looked exaggeratedly slow, even though it wasn't, and he used it to great effect, bowling a sharply turning stock ball that genuinely tested Malewar's outside edge. The ball dipped and ripped to catch the outside edge, a classic left-arm orthodox stock ball. ## Hosein's Performance Against MI Hosein's performance against Mumbai Indians should tell CSK that they shouldn't shy away from picking him against heavily left-handed line-ups. He took crucial wickets, including one of Naman Dhir, who was swishing through thin air as the ball dipped and broke past him to hit the top of middle stump. At 90kph, this was even more deceptive in its trajectory, and it was a testament to Hosein's skills that he was able to execute the ball with such precision. He also bowled an exacting length throughout, showcasing his ability to adapt to different conditions. ## Hosein's Post-Match Press Conference In his post-match press conference, Hosein spoke about the difficulty of adapting to different conditions and the importance of doing his homework quickly. He mentioned that some deliveries come on a bit slower, and some surfaces react differently, but he had certainly done his homework for the Wankhede Stadium surface. He had used it as an opportunity to showcase his full range, swinging his arm ball and using it as a defensive option against left-handers in the powerplay. He had also bowled his stock ball with loop and overspin, getting it to dip and bite against the right-handers.
