Hansi Flick extends Barcelona contract through 2028 after La Liga win
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick signed a contract extension until 2028 after securing the club's 29th La Liga title.
Title victory cements Flick's future Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has finalized a contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2028. The recent 1-0 victory over Real Madrid on Sunday ensured Barca claimed their 29th Spanish league championship, marking Flick's second title in his two years leading the team. The 61-year-old German was already under contract for the upcoming season and has now agreed to an additional one-year extension with a further optional year included. 'I'm really happy about this,' Flick stated. 'They have given me and my team the confidence to work one or two years more.' ## Flick appreciates flexible contract terms Barcelona's agreement to a shorter-term extension rather than a multi-year deal has been met with appreciation from Flick. 'A lot of coaches would be happy if they get a contract of three, four or five years, but in Barca's case it's good to limit it,' he explained. 'I really appreciate it a lot.' The new deal runs through 2028, with both sides holding the option for an additional year afterward. 'We go to 2028 and then we'll see if everything is right, and, if so, we can decide on one more year. The club has the right, and I have the right - I think it's a good deal,' Flick added. ## Emotional weekend ahead of Madrid clash A minute of silence was observed before Sunday's game against Real Madrid following the passing of Flick's father over the weekend. The emotional moment preceded Barca's crucial league triumph that secured the title with three matches remaining in the season. The club now has the chance to finish the campaign with a perfect 100-point haul. Flick took charge of Barcelona in the summer of 2024 following Xavi's departure. ## Domestic double for new Barca boss In his first season at Camp Nou, Flick guided Barcelona to Copa del Rey glory in addition to the league crown. His managerial career includes a two-year stint as Germany's national team coach after leaving Bayern Munich in 2021. During his time with the Bavarians from 2019 to 2021, Flick led them to consecutive Bundesliga titles along with Champions League and Club World Cup victories in 2020.
