Gill overtakes Kohli as Orange Cap leader in IPL 2026 after GT beat KKR

Shubman Gill leads the Orange Cap with 251 runs, while Prasidh Krishna tops the Purple Cap with 11 wickets in IPL 2026.

New Orange Cap leader emerges

A fresh name now sits at the summit of the Orange Cap standings following the Gujarat Titans' (GT) victory over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Ahmedabad on Friday night. Despite missing a game, Shubman Gill has surged to the top of the run-scorers' chart. In the match, he hammered 86 runs off 50 deliveries, earning the Player-of-the-Match award as GT chased down their 181-run target with two balls remaining. This innings pushed his seasonal tally to 251 runs, placing him 23 runs clear of Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) Virat Kohli.

Gill's recent batting form

Gill has now registered three consecutive half-centuries, with his last four knocks reading 39, 70, 56 and 86. While his strike rate of 154.93 falls slightly below the ideal mark, it mirrors the output of the top three run-getters. Kohli, who sits second, boasts a strike rate of 158.33, while Heinrich Klaasen of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) follows at 142.67.

Top run-scorers by speed and volume

When factoring in both runs and strike rate, RCB's Rajat Patidar leads the charge with 222 runs at a blistering 213.46. SRH's Ishan Kishan occupies the next spot with 213 runs at 190.17. Other notable performances include Punjab Kings' (PBKS) Prabhsimran Singh (211 runs), Shreyas Iyer (203), GT's Jos Buttler (201) and Rajasthan Royals' (RR) Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, all of whom have breached the 200-run mark this season.
