Chicago Bulls' Josh Giddey Undergoes Right Ankle Surgery, Sidelined Until Bulls Training Camp 2026
Josh Giddey of the Chicago Bulls underwent right ankle surgery and will miss the next three months of basketball activities.
Surgery and Recovery Timeline Chicago Bulls guard Josh Giddey recently underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right ankle. The team confirmed he will be unable to participate in basketball activities for the next three months. Giddey is expected to return in time for the start of training camp. ## Season Performance and Injuries During the season, Giddey achieved career highs with averages of 17 points, 9.1 assists, and 8.3 rebounds per game. However, he was limited to just 54 appearances due to hamstring and right ankle injuries. This marks his lowest game total since his rookie season in 2021-22 while playing for Oklahoma City. ## Team Struggles and Front Office Changes The Bulls finished 12th in the Eastern Conference with a 31-51 record, missing the playoffs for the fourth consecutive year. To address the team’s struggles, Chicago hired Bryson Graham as the executive vice president of basketball operations, replacing Arturas Karnisovas who was fired. Additionally, the team is searching for a new head coach after Billy Donovan resigned despite opposition from ownership. ## Salary Cap and Draft Picks Remain Available The Bulls currently have nearly $60 million in salary cap space available. They also hold two first-round draft selections, including the fourth overall pick in the upcoming draft.
