Chelsea begin talks with potential permanent head coaches for 2026

Chelsea have started discussions with several managerial candidates to replace their sacked head coach before pre-season training begins next summer.

Club's coaching search underway Chelsea have initiated conversations with multiple potential replacements for their permanent head coach position. The club aims to fill the vacancy left by Liam Rosenior, who was dismissed last month. Among the names being considered are Andoni Iraola, Xabi Alonso, and Marco Silva. Oliver Glasner, currently managing Crystal Palace, is also under consideration according to internal discussions. ## Former players among targets Filipe Luis, who currently coaches Flamengo, and Cesc Fabregas, in charge at Como, are viewed favorably within Chelsea's hierarchy. Both have prior experience at the London club. Chelsea hope to finalize a decision well ahead of pre-season preparations scheduled to start in early July. ## Availability of top candidates The potential candidates being evaluated by Chelsea are all set to leave their current roles by the end of the season. This includes Glasner, whose Crystal Palace contract expires this summer, and Iraola, who confirmed his departure from Bournemouth at season's end. Neither would require compensation payments from Chelsea. Glasner has expressed openness to remaining in England after his contract concludes. ## Crystal Palace's competing interest Crystal Palace have identified Iraola as their preferred successor to Glasner and have already engaged in extensive discussions with him. The 43-year-old manager is reportedly taking additional time to evaluate his options, including possibilities at both clubs. Sources indicate he may even opt to remain without a role at the start of next season, keeping himself available for mid-season managerial openings elsewhere. ## Fulham manager's future uncertain Marco Silva's contract at Fulham concludes this summer, though he has been presented with a three-year extension to remain at Craven Cottage. Despite this offer, reports suggest Silva has alternative opportunities abroad. Clubs in Saudi Arabia are also reportedly interested if he decides not to renew his agreement with Fulham.
