Celtic handed suspended home seat cut after May title pitch invasion

Celtic face losing 1,000 home seats if another significant pitch invasion occurs before June 2028.

Post-title pitch chaos Celtic could face the loss of 1,000 spectators for a Scottish Premiership home match if another major pitch invasion happens before the end of the 2027-28 season. During the season’s final game, fans rushed onto the field after Callum Osmand scored in stoppage time to secure a 3-1 win. Hearts players, still in their kits, exited the stadium immediately, citing a hostile environment inside. Celtic later issued a formal apology for the incident. ## SPFL disciplinary outcomes The SPFL handed Celtic a £7,500 fine and a suspended penalty until 30 June 2028 for fan misconduct. This punishment would take effect if another significant pitch invasion occurs. Celtic were also fined £2,500 for previous pitch incursions and pyrotechnic use by fans during an away game at Motherwell, which was overturned by a 99th-minute penalty from Kelechi Iheanacho. ## Away match ticket reductions Celtic must surrender 100 tickets from their away allocation for one league match, with the punishment suspended until 30 June 2027. Motherwell received an identical £2,500 fine for the same offences during the same fixture and will have block E in the East Stand closed for one match if such behaviour repeats before 30 June 2027. ## Highland and Lowland cases Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Hamilton Academical each received £1,000 fines for fans entering the pitch during their 2 May match in the Highlands. Inverness will have half of their North Stand closed for a league game, with the punishment suspended until 30 June 2028. Hamilton also received a formal warning for a pitch invasion at their home game against Clyde on 15 May. ## Suspended capacity cuts for championship clubs Stenhousemuir will lose 150 seats at Ochilview Park for one match, suspended until 30 June 2028, after supporters celebrated promotion onto the Alloa Athletic pitch on 16 May. The punishment applies to their capacity reduction for a single league fixture following the post-promotion celebrations.
