Cardiff secure permanent signing of goalkeeper Nathan Trott in 2026

Cardiff City have completed the permanent acquisition of Nathan Trott after his successful loan spell.

Cardiff City have finalized the permanent transfer of goalkeeper Nathan Trott following his standout season on loan from Copenhagen. The undisclosed transfer fee is believed to be £1.5 million as specified in the original loan terms.

Trott has committed to a three-year contract that extends until the conclusion of the 2029 campaign. He joined the club during the previous summer and featured in 41 League One matches as Cardiff secured an immediate return to the Championship.

Nathan Trott described the permanent move as a long-held ambition.

"It's something that I've wanted to get across the line," he told the club's official website.

"Through the course of the season, I think that all of us were on the same page to get it done, so for it to finally be done now is an amazing feeling."

The 27-year-old recorded 16 clean sheets and produced several memorable saves, earning a nomination for the club's player of the season award.

Trott impressed beyond his shot-stopping duties, demonstrating strong ball-playing abilities that supported Brian Barry-Murphy's expansive tactical approach.

He credited his technical skills to his early development in Bermuda, where he played in midfield and defense during his youth.

His adaptability was evident when he transitioned to goalkeeping following an injury to a teammate during an under-15 tournament.

After impressing in goal, Trott was recommended to West Ham United by the club's former Bermudian striker Clyde Best.

He spent five years with the London side, featuring on loan at AFC Wimbledon, French club Nancy, and Danish side Vejle before joining Copenhagen in 2024.

His performances there paved the way for his successful loan spell at Cardiff, culminating in this permanent agreement.

Trott expressed enthusiasm about joining the Cardiff setup.

"I think it's the perfect group to be a part of," he stated.

"With Brian we've got a good group of players, a good core of young players, the Welsh boys, a few experienced players, and I think we all just gel together really well."

He highlighted the strong fan support, noting it has grown throughout the season and made playing away matches particularly rewarding.

Trott reflected on the club's passionate supporters and the city's unique atmosphere.

"It's a very special environment, a special group of fans and city as well, so I'm looking forward to continuing that story," he said.

He is eager to prove himself in the Championship, acknowledging that while his performances this season were promising, higher-level challenges await.

"I'm excited for the Championship. I think it's a great opportunity for me to show what I can do.

I think everyone saw what I'm capable of this season, but nobody's really seen anything yet in terms of what I can do at a higher level, so I'm excited to get started."
