Bumrah Included in Full India T20I Squad for 2026 Asian Games
Jasprit Bumrah returns for India's full-strength T20I squad at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan.
India's Squad Selection Jasprit Bumrah will feature in India’s fully-strengthened squad for the Men’s T20 event at the 2026 Asian Games, scheduled for September and October in Japan. The fast bowler was rested during the T20I tours of Ireland and England in June and July, as the focus shifted to ODIs ahead of the 2027 World Cup. However, he has now been included in the 15-player squad for the Asian Games. Bumrah replaces Mohammed Siraj, who remains part of the T20I squads for Ireland and England. ## Changes and Additions Prince Yadav, who was the 16th member of the T20I squads in Ireland and England, has not been named in the Asian Games squad. Shreyas Iyer, the newly appointed T20I captain, will lead the team in Japan, with Tilak Varma serving as his deputy. A 15-year-old emerging talent, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, has also made the squad and will compete for a top-order position alongside the regular top three: Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, and Ishan Kishan. ## Asian Games Schedule The 2026 Asian Games in Aichi Prefecture, Japan, will run from September 19 to October 4. The event overlaps with India’s three-ODI series against West Indies from September 27 to October 3, followed by five T20Is starting October 6. The men’s cricket competition will be played in the T20 format, beginning on September 24 and concluding with the final on October 3. Ten teams—India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Japan, Nepal, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Oman—will compete for the gold medal. ## Tournament Structure The men’s cricket tournament will start with preliminary qualifiers from September 24 to 26. This will be followed by the quarter-finals on September 28 and 29, the semi-finals on October 1, and the bronze and gold medal matches on October 3. India claimed the men’s gold medal at the previous Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, in October 2023, after the final against Afghanistan was abandoned due to rain after 18.2 overs, with India declared winners as the higher-seeded team. ## Women's Cricket Details The women’s cricket competition at the 2026 Asian Games will take place from September 17 to 22, with the gold medal match featuring Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, and China. India secured the gold medal in the 2023 edition by defeating Sri Lanka by 19 runs in the final. ## Final India Squad | Player | Role | |-----------------------|--------------------------| | Shreyas Iyer | Captain | | Sanju Samson | Wicketkeeper | | Abhishek Sharma | Batter | | Ishan Kishan | Wicketkeeper/Batter | | Shivam Dube | All-rounder | | Tilak Varma | Vice-captain | | Axar Patel | All-rounder | | Washington Sundar | All-rounder | | Nitish Kumar Reddy | Batter | | Varun Chakravarthy | Bowler | | Ravi Bishnoi | Bowler | | Harshit Rana | Bowler | | Arshdeep Singh | Bowler | | Vaibhav Sooryavanshi | Batter | | Jasprit Bumrah | Bowler |
