Brighton finalize a five-year deal for Portuguese right-back Costinha from Olympiacos for around £11 million.
Brighton have finalized the signing of Portuguese right-back Costinha from Olympiacos on a five-year deal for around £11 million. The 26-year-old arrives after two seasons in Greece, where he made 74 appearances and scored 12 goals.
His move follows two years at Rio Ave in Portugal, where he played 121 top-flight matches.
Fabian Hurzeler, Brighton’s head coach, praised Costinha’s defensive ability, work rate, and tactical understanding. He highlighted the player’s contributions in both defensive and attacking phases, calling him a strong addition to the squad.
Hurzeler also noted that Costinha would push for playing time at right-back. The coach emphasized the defender’s high energy levels as a key asset.
Costinha’s career began through multiple youth academies before joining Rio Ave in 2017. His consistent performances there earned him recognition, leading to a move to Olympiacos.
In Greece, he established himself as a reliable option, contributing offensively while maintaining defensive solidity.
His experience in top-flight football across two countries adds depth to his profile. At 26, Costinha has already gained valuable senior minutes in Portugal and Greece.
He also earned a single cap for Portugal’s U21 team in 2022. His versatility and defensive awareness make him a modern full-back option.
Brighton’s investment reflects their confidence in his potential to compete at Premier League level.
