Bol Bol, born on November 16, 1999, is a basketball player with a notable career, having played for several teams including the Orlando Magic and Phoenix Suns. His journey began in Sudan and took him to various parts of the United States, shaping his athletic career.
Bol Bol was born on November 16, 1999, in Khartoum, Sudan, as the second child of a large family that included his father, Manute Bol, a former NBA star known for being one of the tallest players in the league's history. Due to restrictions imposed by the Sudanese government on immigrating to the United States during the Second Sudanese Civil War, the family escaped to Cairo, Egypt, in 2001, before eventually making their way to the US the following year and settling in Connecticut as political refugees. At the age of seven, Bol relocated with his family to Olathe, Kansas, a city recognized for its significant South Sudanese population. Bol started his high school education at Blue Valley Northwest High School in Overland Park, Kansas, where he initially played on the junior varsity basketball team. However, he was forced to transfer schools mid-way through his freshman year due to residential issues related to the school district, leading him to continue his junior varsity and eventually varsity basketball career at Bishop Miege High School in Roeland Park, Kansas. As a sophomore during the 2015-16 season, Bol earned a ranking among the top players in his class and contributed to Bishop Miege's victory in the Kansas Class 4A Division I state championship. For his junior year, Bol made another transfer, this time to Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California, where he achieved an average of 16.5 points and 8.6 rebounds per game, helping Mater Dei secure a second-place finish in the California Interscholastic Federation. In late 2017, Bol transferred schools once again, moving to Findlay Prep in Henderson, Nevada, where he concluded his high school career with impressive statistics of 20.4 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. Having received multiple scholarship offers from prestigious universities such as Kansas, Kentucky, Oregon, Arizona, and UCLA, Bol decided to commit to the University of Oregon. However, his college basketball career was short-lived, as he only played one season with the Oregon Ducks before opting to enter the NBA draft. A notable highlight from his college season was a game where he scored 32 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in a closely contested match against the Texas Southern Tigers in late 2018. The day after undergoing foot surgery, Bol was traded to the Boston Celtics, but his tenure with the team was brief, as he was traded to the Orlando Magic the very next month. Bol re-signed with the Magic for the 2022-23 season, which turned out to be his most successful season to date, with career-high averages of 9.1 points and 5.8 rebounds per game in a total of 70 games. Following this season, the Magic decided to waive him. In the summer of 2023, Bol signed a one-year contract with the Phoenix Suns, a season in which he averaged 5.2 points and 3.2 rebounds per game across 43 games, contributing to the team's playoff run that ultimately ended with a loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round. After the season, Bol re-signed with the Suns, and in his second season with the team, he averaged 6.8 points and 2.9 rebounds per game in 36 games.
