Barcelona's Yamal ruled out for season but on track for 2026 World Cup

Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal will miss the rest of the season with a hamstring injury but is expected to recover for the 2026 World Cup.

Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal will miss the rest of the season after suffering a hamstring injury during Wednesday's 1-0 win over Celta Vigo.

The teenager scored from the penalty spot in the 40th minute before immediately pulling up and signaling for a substitution, clutching his left thigh. Medical staff attended to him on the field before he was taken off for treatment.

The injury occurred in the first half of the away league match. The club confirmed Yamal will follow a cautious recovery plan and won't play in any remaining domestic fixtures.

Despite the setback, Barcelona expects him to be available for Spain's 2026 World Cup campaign. The 18-year-old has been a key attacking option this season, scoring 24 goals across all competitions.

His rehabilitation is being closely monitored by the medical team.

Barcelona currently lead La Liga by nine points, having already secured last season's title. They have six league matches remaining, including a home game against Real Madrid on May 10.

The team remains in strong contention to retain the domestic crown with a significant lead over rivals.
