Bangladesh names T20I squad with Sarmin for Sri Lanka series 2026
Bangladesh named their T20I squad for the series against Sri Lanka, featuring uncapped Sarmin and led by captain Nigar Sultana.
Series follows ODI finish The selectors finalized the squad right after the women's ODI series concluded in Rajshahi, where Sri Lanka took a 2-1 victory. The hosts aim to improve their batting output following a below-par performance in the five-match WODI series. Sri Lanka secured the series win with three matches played, leaving Bangladesh looking to regroup ahead of the T20I leg. ## Sarmin's T20I debut awaited Sarmin, who has never played a T20I before, recently made her return to the ODI side after a seven-year absence. In the WODI series against Sri Lanka, she managed just 42 runs across three innings, keeping her T20I cap still unearned. The top-order will again lean heavily on captain Nigar Sultana, Sobhana Mostary and Sharmin Akter, who all contributed runs during the ODI series. Hoque, who was left out of the T20I squad, scored 11 runs in her sole appearance in the third ODI. ## Bowling lineup set for new challenge Bangladesh's bowling unit appears settled, with Marufa Akter expected to open the attack, though they may need extra pace options. Left-arm seamer Fariha Trisna may provide a boost on the somewhat livelier pitches in Sylhet. The spinners, led by vice-captain Nahida Akter along with Rabeya Khan, Sultana Khatun and Fahima Khatun, will aim to recover after failing to build pressure in the ODI series. ## Final tune-up before World Cup This series represents Bangladesh's last outing before traveling to England for the Women's T20 World Cup in June. They secured qualification by winning all seven matches at the T20 World Cup qualifier in Nepal earlier in the year. The team will now focus on sharpening their skills before the global tournament kicks off. ## Full Bangladesh T20I squad listed The following players have been named in the squad: Nigar Sultana (captain), Nahida Akter (vice-captain), Dilara Akter, Sobhana Mostary, Fahima Khatun, Sharmin Akter, Ritu Moni, Shorna Akter, Rabeya Khan, Sarmin Sultana, Marufa Akter, Fariha Trisna, Sultana Khatun, Sanjida Akter Meghla and Juairiya Ferdous.
