Alex Scott set for England debut in World Cup friendlies 2026

Alex Scott is in line to make his first appearance for England in the upcoming World Cup warm-up matches in the United States.

Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, along with Rio Ngumoha, Josh King, Jason Steele, and Ethan Nwaneri, has traveled as additional players for England's preparation camp in Florida ahead of the World Cup warm-up games in the United States. The five were included despite not being part of Thomas Tuchel's initial squad for the tournament. They will remain in Florida throughout the camp, even after the rest of the squad arrives.

Arsenal and Palace stars to join soon Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka, Eberechi Eze, and Noni Madueke from Arsenal, as well as Crystal Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson, are expected to arrive in Florida to join the camp. Henderson is scheduled to report within the next 24 hours, while the other four players are anticipated to arrive over the weekend following their European final commitments.

Despite not being selected in Tuchel's original 55-man World Cup squad, all five additional players are eligible to feature in the upcoming friendlies against New Zealand and Costa Rica. The quintet will stay in Florida for the duration of the camp, continuing preparations even as the main squad members join later.

Scott was named in Tuchel's provisional squad earlier, meaning he remains the only player from the five extras who could still earn a spot in the full World Cup squad should injuries occur. The 22-year-old now has a prime opportunity to make his international debut during one of the upcoming friendlies before the summer break. Scott received his first senior call-up for November's matches against Serbia and Albania but did not play.

Tuchel explained why he brought the five additional players, highlighting Scott's strong reaction after being left out of the final squad. I'm really happy these guys are with us, especially Alex, who was with us in the list of 55 and had a kind of disappointing phone call as well, that he didn't make the first cut. But the reaction of him was outstanding, the commitment, the wish to be in pre-camp and to just be a step closer to the team was not even a question for him. He showed me his character and his spirit so I'm delighted that he's with us because it was a close call.

England's squad is currently in Florida for their pre-tournament camp ahead of the 2026 World Cup. The friendlies against New Zealand and Costa Rica will serve as key warm-up matches before the tournament begins. The team's final 26-man squad has already been announced, but the additional players provide extra depth and options.
