An Indian cricket player from Meghalaya, Akash Kumar Choudhary, has garnered significant national attention with his exceptional performance in the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 season. Born in 1999 in Meghalaya, he is a right-handed batsman and a right-arm fast bowler. He has been a consistent member of the Meghalaya state team since making his debut in the 2019-20 season. Prior to his remarkable innings in the Ranji Trophy 2025-26, Choudhary was primarily recognized as a bowling all-rounder, with a modest batting record of around 500 runs in over 30 first-class matches at an average of approximately 14. Akash Choudhary made history during a Ranji Trophy Plate Group match against Arunachal Pradesh at the C.K. Pithawala Ground in Surat, where he came to bat at number eight. In the span of just eight deliveries, he smashed eight consecutive sixes, including six in a single over off spinner Limar Dabi, and reached his half-century in a mere 11 balls, thus breaking the world record for the fastest fifty in first-class cricket. He remained unbeaten on 50 from 14 balls, taking Meghalaya to a massive total of 628 for 6 declared.
